Landmarks are ample. Arizona is, of course, home to the global wonder of the Grand Canyon, (part of) Monument Valley and the hot, cactus dotted land of the Sonoran Desert. New Mexico deals in scenic conundrum with enclaves such as the White Sands National Monument, with its towering sand dunes. Oklahoma and Kansas seem to stretch forever, the horizon continually distant as the Great Plains advance westwards. Then there’s Texas – the largest of the 48 mainland states in the US. Where everything is big and it’s a destination in itself. Also known as cowboy country, wild but still charming; Texans live up to their stereotype.
