Switzerland isn’t just cuckoo clocks and fondue, but many of the other clichés about the country are true. Things pretty much do run on time, the country is easy to get around and the scenery is breathtaking. Mountainous scenery makes up almost a third of Switzerland and just one area, the imposing St. Gotthard Massif, gives birth to two of the great rivers of Europe, the Rhine and the Rhone. These mountains, of course, also provide plenty of photographic fodder for the tourist – colorful meadows, chic ski resorts, flowers cascading from window boxes of old wooden homes – and help bring travelers back again and again.
